Why Do They Keep Doing That?
Most people go through life on autopilot, repeating the same patterns they cannot name. They show up in relationships, in careers, in the decisions people make every single day. They do not know why they do what they do. And they definitely do not know why everyone else keeps doing what they do.
My name is Kelly M. Jefferson, PhD. I am a former DOJ and DEA Investigative Intelligence Analyst, trained at the FBI Academy in Quantico, where I spent years reading people in high-stakes environments. I worked wiretaps, overseas embassy operations, and investigations involving drug cartels. That experience gave me something most people never develop: the ability to see patterns in human behavior before others even know they exist.
Now I am a Behavioral Intelligence Strategist. I have proudly transposed that same skillset from the intelligence world into the coaching space and beyond. What I learned in law enforcement is simple but powerful: success is never accidental. It is always a result of patterns. The patterns people operate from determine the results they get. Most people do not see them. I do.
Every episode, I am breaking down a specific pattern. The ones that show up again and again in how people think, how they decide, and how they act. No fluff. No generic advice. Just the patterns, why they exist, and how to work with them instead of against them.
If you want to understand why people, including yourself, keep doing the things they do, this is your show.

Episode #205: How to Coach a Stuck Client When Advice Isn’t Working
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
How do you coach a client who understands their problem but keeps repeating the same behavior?
Sometimes another strategy, worksheet, or piece of advice won’t create movement. The client may have reached The Insight Plateau (87), where more understanding stops producing more change.
In this podcast, I explain how Pattern Blindness (82) makes repeated behavior difficult for clients to see, how Pattern Fluency helps coaches hear the old pattern inside a new story, and how to help a client find the earliest place where a different response becomes possible.
You’ll learn how to:
* recognize repeated sequences across coaching sessions,
* reflect a pattern without blaming or labeling the client,
* find the first choice point inside the pattern,
* and help the client turn insight into a practical next step.
